完形填空题是最考查学生综合能力的一道题目，大部分学生做这道题时都是凭借着他们的“语感”，或者更准确地说，是靠运气在做题。我们经常会发现，同一名学生在间隔不久的两次考试中，完型填空有时能大获全胜，有时又全军覆没。那么，要怎样才能突破高考英语完形填空呢？
完形填空题的创始人——威尔逊·泰勒（Wilson Taylor）说：“完形填空所涉及的是一系列与上下文相联系的空白，而不是孤立的空白。”因此，我们不能仅仅通过对各局部的分析来认识整体。必须通过自上而下地分析整体结构到各个组成部分的特性来理解整体的全部性质。大致流程如下：
整体把握 具体分析
跳过空格，通读全文，理解大意
结合选项，综合考虑，初定答案
瞻前顾后，先易后难，逐个击破
再读全文，仔细检查，确定答案
具体做题时应该如何确定答案，有以下三个方法。
首先，做题时要充分利用文章的前后句以及上下文，找到对选择有提示作用的单词、短语或句子，甚至可能是同义词或反义词。这也是大部分学生有机会拿分的点。
